Over a single conductor, signal can only be sent in pulses (for digital data). The signal is to be encoded in a pulse code (like PCM, DPCM, PWM, etc) which means that the data will travel with respect to time which is i.e Serial communication.

Can any one give explanation please.

Take RS 232 CABLE it sends data serially but it has so many pins (i.e) each consists of one one wire. How is it is a single conductor.

Swapnil said:   1 decade ago
Kranthi, most of the pins on RS 232 are for various signals denoting various informations. Leaving aside these pins, RS 232 is a single conductor.

Now, about the explanation part, parallel transmission needs more data lines. In serial transmission, you can send all the data in a single queue. Hence, a single conductor & a ground are sufficient here.

In that chapter in 11th question answer is each signal transmitted in single line. How it possible?parallel transmission means each signal transmitted in single line. The same answer given in serial also. How?

In serial data transfer only one wire is require. But in parallel separate bit required aep wire.

The answer is in the question.

To transfer signals in parallel each signal should have one conductor. To transfer all the signals using one conductor they should be transmitted in series.
