Decoder is used to convert the coded form like binary, BCD etc into un coded form. It has n i/ps and 2^n o/ps.

Both decoder and encoder is digital concepts, decoder is used to convert machine language (0, 1) into the assembly languase (english like) , and encoder is opposite to that.
