Demultiplexer refers to DEMUX means one to many and Multiplexer refers to many to one.
It frequently use in digital signal processing, if there is requirement of one sgnal to many user can easily send by using Demultiplexer.

(MUX) is a selector device that has 2i data inputs, and i select inputs. The value on the output of such a device is the value nth data input, where n is the binary number on the select inputs.

1 = 2^n This is the equation of demux.
1 = input.
2^n = output.
n = number of selection lines.
So one input and many outputs.
1 = input.
2^n = output.
n = number of selection lines.
So one input and many outputs.

Demux has input & output is given by 1:2^n where n=1,2,3 etc.
Ex: 1:2, 1:4, 1:8 demux.
Ex: 1:2, 1:4, 1:8 demux.
