*Directions to Solve*

The following table gives the percentage distribution of population of five states, P, Q, R, S and T on the basis of poverty line and also on the basis of sex.

If the male population above poverty line for State R is 1.9 million, then the total population of State R is?

Answer: Option

Explanation:

Let the total population of State R be *x* million.

Then, population of State R above poverty line

= [(100 - 24)% of *x*] million

= | 76 | x x |

And so, male population of State R above poverty line

= | 2 | x | 76 | x x |
million | ||||

5 | 100 |

But, it is given that male population of State R above poverty line = 1.9 million.

= 1.9 x = |
5 x 100 x 1.9 | = 6.25. | |||

Total population of State R = 6.25 million.

Below poverty line 1:2 is 24%.

Above poverty line is 2:3.

Here 2 which is male ratio is given 1.9mill. So find 3? in mill.

2/3=1.9/x.

Cross multiply 2x = 5.7.

X= 2.85 which is female ratio 3.

Now add total population of above poverty line male + female

= 1.9+2.85.

= 4.75 mill.

Now since 24% is below poverty line then 24-100 = 76% is above poverty line.

76% is = 4.75mill,

Now 24% = 4.75/76*24.

= 1.5mill.

Now total population = 1.5 + 4.75.

= 6.25mill.

Above poverty line is 2:3.

Here 2 which is male ratio is given 1.9mill. So find 3? in mill.

2/3=1.9/x.

Cross multiply 2x = 5.7.

X= 2.85 which is female ratio 3.

Now add total population of above poverty line male + female

= 1.9+2.85.

= 4.75 mill.

Now since 24% is below poverty line then 24-100 = 76% is above poverty line.

76% is = 4.75mill,

Now 24% = 4.75/76*24.

= 1.5mill.

Now total population = 1.5 + 4.75.

= 6.25mill.

It means,

Percentage of the Population Above the Poverty Line Means the Proportion of Males and Females Above the Poverty Line which is 76% and Ration of 2:3,

Now,

2 = 1.9.

5 = 1.9/2 * 5 = 4.75 (It is 76%).

So,

76% = 4.75

100% = 4.75/76 * 100 = 6.25 Millions.

Its Easy, just find X more than enough,

Data given:- M:F ratio above the poverty line is 2:3 and Total male population above the poverty line is 1.9.

Therefore, In the above poverty line,

Ratios are 2:3 i.e, 2x:3x which is no. of males are 2x= 1.9 so, x = 0.8

So, no of females is 3x i.e, 3*0.8 = 2.4.

Similarly, In below poverty line,

M:F ratio is 1:2.

Take the same X value x=0.8 and substitute in 1x:2x

1x=0.8, x = 0.8

2x = 2(0.8) = 1.6.

Now, add both above poverty and below poverty line values that is;

1.9 + 2.4 + 0.8 + 1.6 = 6.7 approx 6.2.

Data given:- M:F ratio above the poverty line is 2:3 and Total male population above the poverty line is 1.9.

Therefore, In the above poverty line,

Ratios are 2:3 i.e, 2x:3x which is no. of males are 2x= 1.9 so, x = 0.8

So, no of females is 3x i.e, 3*0.8 = 2.4.

Similarly, In below poverty line,

M:F ratio is 1:2.

Take the same X value x=0.8 and substitute in 1x:2x

1x=0.8, x = 0.8

2x = 2(0.8) = 1.6.

Now, add both above poverty and below poverty line values that is;

1.9 + 2.4 + 0.8 + 1.6 = 6.7 approx 6.2.

% in the r state bellow the poverty line is 24 hence the % of above poverty line in r state will be 76% the proportion between male and female in above poverty line is 2:3 the male population above the poverty line in r state is 1.9 million.

Hence 76% 2/5 = 1.9 million.

76% = 9.5/2, 76% = 4.75 million and 100% will be 6.25 million.

Hence 76% 2/5 = 1.9 million.

Here, above poverty line male =76/100*2/5 = 1.9 then how can we calculate total population by this equation putting x.
