Distribution of Overseas Tourist Traffic from India.

3.
If amongst other countries, Switzerland accounted for 25% of the Indian tourist traffic, and it is known from official Swiss records that a total of 25 lakh Indian tourists had gone to Switzerland during the year, then find the number of 30-39 year old Indian tourists who went abroad in that year ?
18.75 lakh
25 lakh
50 lakh
75 lakh
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Tourist traffic from other countries to Swiz is 20%.

Amongst this 20%, 25% of traffic from India.

So, 25% of 20% = 5% corresponds to the Indian traffic in Switzerland.

5 % corresponds to Switzerland's 25 lakh. Hence 15% will be 75 lakh.

See, let us consider the total no of tourist to be 'x'.

From the above conditions;

20% move out to other countries ----------> (i).

{ i.e. mathematically (20* x /100) }.

Switzerland comes under (other countries) ***from that 20% ------- (a).

Indian tourist's visited Switzerland is 25% ------ >(ii).

{i.e mathematically (20* x /100) * 25/100 }.

So, the Indian people visited in Fig are 25,00,000/-.

We can simply put the situation as {i.e mathematically (20* x /100) * 25/100 = 25,00,000 ------> (iii).

From the above iii equations, we can get (total no of tourists) ' x' =5 crores (5,00,00,000).

So, here the game changes, the question is asking about the total tourists from the age 30-39 (i.e 15 %) is traveling abroad,

So from the total tourist, 15% is between the ages 30-39,

i.e 5,00,00,000 * 15/100 = 75,00,000 (75 lakh).

In the question given that total tourists in Switzerland 25% which actually given in 1st pie chart other 20% which means Switzerland coming in other.
Because not specially mention data of Switzerland which means out of 20%
Switzerland got 25%.
So, 25/100 x 1/5 = 25lakh means total 5cr,
So, 15% equal to 75 lakh.

25/100 x 1/5 = 25 lakh,
5cr, 15% is equal to 75 lakh.

@All.

Here's the solution.

Let's say 'X' is the number of Indians who went ABROAD(US+UK+JAPAN+OTHERS) in a year.

Now, number of Indians who went to only "other" countries, excluding the other three is,

20/100 * X = X/5 (basic % method and as given the other countries accounts for 20% of Indian tourist traffic. We ought to do this step according to the information provided in the question).

Now, given Switzerland accounts for 25% of Indian tourist traffic visiting the " other countries" The very first sentence of the question.

So, we can say,

25/100 * X/5 = 25,00000.

(we are using the information given in the question to actually get "X" the no. of Indians who went ABROAD. i.e, US, UK, JAPAN AND OTHERS)

X = 50,000,000.

So, 5 crore Indians went abroad in a year.

Now the ultimate step is to filter out from this total population of Indian tourists of all age groups, only the ones between 30-39 years old. And how much are they accounting? 15% , so,

15/100 of 50,000,000 = 75,00000.(answer)

The 20% comes from the 'others' in the pie chart.

In the question, they mentioned that "If amongst <other countries>, Switzerland accounted for 25% of the Indian tourist traffic".

It means that the 25%of the Indian tourist traffic to Switzerland is in 20% of the Indian tourist traffic to the other countries.

So the actual Indian tourist traffic to Switzerland is 25%of 20% i.e., 0.25*20 = 5%.

That 5% is equal to 25lakh people.

By that we can know that the total people went abroad that year are 5 crores.

In that 5crore 30-39 years, age Indian tourists are 15% that means 0.15*5crore = 75 lakhs.
