Directions to Solve

The following line graph gives the ratio of the amounts of imports by a company to the amount of exports from that company over the period from 1995 to 2001.

Ratio of Value of Imports to Exports by a Company Over the Years.

3.
What was the percentage increase in imports from 1997 to 1998 ?
72
56
28
Data inadequate
Answer: Option
Explanation:

The graph gives only the ratio of imports to exports for different years. To find the percentage increase in imports from 1997 to 1998, we require more details such as the value of imports or exports during these years.

Hence, the data is inadequate to answer this question.

0.35/1.25 * 100 = 28%.

@Bahadur.

35 is an import & 100 export in 1997.
In 1998,
125 import and 100 export.

So, 125 - 35 = 90.
90 * 100/125 = 72%.

@Priyal

Supposing numerator import and denominator export cannot be solved for 0.35 = 35/100.

So, 35 is an import & 100 is export? isn't it

Percentage Increase=( Final Value−Initial Value)/Initial Value × 100.

In this, we have initial and final as 0.35 and 1.25 right.
So (90/35)*100 = 257.14%.

I thought we could calculate the percentage increase using a ratio.
In that case, 7 - 5 = (2/7) * 100 = 28.5.

Correct me, if I am wrong.
