Answer: Option
Explanation:

Average annual exports of Company Z during the given period

    = 1 x (60 + 90 + 120 + 90 + 60 + 80 + 100)
7

    = Rs. ( 600 ) crores
7

    = Rs. 85.71 crores.

From the analysis of graph the exports of Company Z are more than the average annual exports of Company Z (i.e., Rs. 85.71 crores) during the years 1994, 1995, 1996 and 1999, i.e., during 4 of the given years.

Hey all,

Let me explain in simple manner.

The question is perfect, answer is even more perfect... Only problem is ur way of understanding... Let me simplify this.

As GIVEN, Annual exports of company z( from diagram) over 7 years(1993 to 1999) are :60,90,120,90,60,80,100....Ok

Now, the question is.... if we calculate avg of those annual exports of company Z, then how many years are there with exports more than that avg.

The avg of the annual exports of company z is..... 600/7= 85.71
Then , in 1993 exports are 60 ,which is less than 85.71
in 1997 exports are 60 ,which is less than 85.71
in 1998 exports are 80 ,which is less than 85.71

Hence , in the years 1994,95,96,99 the annual export is more than avg of annual export of all 7 years. Hufffff Thanks.

Z's Average = 600/7 = 85.71.
So, in the year
1994 = 90 , (90>85.71).
1995 = 120,(120>85.71).
1996 = 90,(90>85.71).
1999 = 100,(100>85.71).

Above 4years has more exports than average.

Remaining years were less than average.
i.e 1993 = 60 ,(60<85.71).
1997 = 60,(60<85.71).
1998 = 80,(80<85.71).

The question is for "exports from Company Z" and not "average exports from Company Z". Hence, taking into account the exports of Z as compared to the average exports of all the 3 companies for each year, the answer should be 5. The question should have been more candidate.

Hi @Amrita, agree with you, answer should be 5. Reason is that the comparison given is with the average exports every over given years.

Hence formula should be exports of z in given year/avg export done in that year.

It will be 5 so the answer will be D.

Here, the average you have taken is wrong. For this question average of z is not required but an average of the three companies is required so the answer would be option D 5.

Hi,

Please let me know how this happen because in the quetion he has asked for how many years and you have given 4.

But you have calculated the average of all the years.

So justify this.

Thanks.

How can you find this?

Then, in 1993 exports are 60 , which is less than 85.71.
in 1997 exports are 60, which is less than 85.71.
in 1998 exports are 80, which is less than 85.71.

How the avg of 85.7 is more than 100 In the year 1999?
The answer should be 3.

Or the answer should be 5 if we will compare using the average of the 3 companies combined.

Actually for the 3 years i.e. 1994, 1995, 1996 company Z has high exports compared to the other two companies. Then why the answer is given as 4 years?

Rajesh said:   1 decade ago
@Shailusha.

In the year 1999 also annual export is more than avg of annual export of all 7 years (85.71).
