ANCHOR, which stands for Atlas of Neurochemical Characterisation of the Human Brainstem with 3D Reconstruction, was unveiled by IIT Madras on June 12, 2026. Developed by the Sudha Gopalakrishnan Brain Centre (SGBC), the atlas represents a major advancement in neuroscience research. It incorporates more than 200 brainstem nuclei and fiber tracts and combines MRI, histology, and chemo-architectural data into a single multimodal framework. Covering various stages of the human lifespan, the project aims to improve the understanding of neurological disorders and assist clinicians in identifying affected cell populations, thereby supporting more accurate diagnosis and future medical research.
