IIT Delhi developed AILA, an advanced AI-powered laboratory assistant designed to transform the way scientific experiments are conducted. AILA uses agentic AI, enabling it to plan, decide, and adapt in a manner similar to a human researcher. It can independently design experiments, carry them out, and analyze results without continuous human intervention. The system was successfully demonstrated by controlling an Atomic Force Microscope in real time, highlighting its practical capabilities. One of its most significant advantages is efficiency, as it can reduce experiment durations from hours or even days to just a few minutes, accelerating research outcomes.

The MAVEN (Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution) mission is a NASA spacecraft dedicated to studying the atmosphere of Mars. Launched in November 2013, it has been orbiting Mars since September 2014, providing crucial insights into how the planet lost most of its atmosphere over billions of years. MAVEN examines the interaction between solar wind, sunlight, and the Martian upper atmosphere and ionosphere. It also serves as a communication relay for Mars rovers such as Curiosity and Perseverance. Its long-term data collection has been vital in understanding Mars’ transition from a warmer, wetter planet to a cold, dry world.

The discovery of the unusual lemon-shaped exoplanet PSR J2322-2650b was made using the James Webb Space Telescope, highlighting its advanced observational capabilities. The telescope enabled scientists to study an extreme planetary system located very close to a pulsar, where intense gravitational forces have stretched the planet into an elongated shape. James Webb’s infrared sensitivity and ability to observe environments with minimal stellar interference allowed researchers to obtain a clear atmospheric spectrum of the planet. This breakthrough demonstrates the telescope’s transformative role in deepening understanding of exotic planetary structures, extreme cosmic conditions, and the diversity of planetary systems in the universe.

ISRO is set to launch the BlueBird Block-2 communication satellite as part of the LVM3-M6 mission, marking an important step in commercial space collaboration. The satellite has been developed by AST SpaceMobile and is notable for being the largest commercial communications satellite to be deployed in Low Earth Orbit. Its primary objective is to provide space-based cellular broadband connectivity directly to standard mobile smartphones across the globe, without the need for specialised equipment. This mission highlights ISRO’s growing role in launching advanced commercial satellites and supporting next-generation global communication technologies.

Maitri II is envisioned as India’s modern, all-weather Antarctic research station that will replace the existing Maitri I facility. The project timeline was revised from earlier estimates, reflecting the scale and complexity of constructing advanced infrastructure in the harsh Antarctic environment. The new completion target aligns with India’s long-term scientific and logistical planning, allowing sufficient time for design, site preparation, and construction. By aiming for completion in 2032, the project ensures the development of state-of-the-art laboratories and reliable support systems to strengthen India’s contribution to global climate, glaciology, and environmental research.
