The Sikkim Police was awarded the prestigious President of India’s Police Colour by President Droupadi Murmu on May 28, 2026, in Gangtok. This honour is the highest recognition given to any police force in India for exceptional and meritorious service. Established in 1897, the Sikkim Police has completed over 125 years of service in maintaining law and order and ensuring public safety. The award highlights its transformation from a colonial-era policing system to a more citizen-centric and transparent institution. The recognition also emphasises reforms focused on accountability, protection of vulnerable groups, especially women and children, and strengthening trust between the police and the public in line with modern governance goals.
