On April 26, 2026, Andhra Pradesh launched India’s first-ever Mushroom Mission with a massive investment of ₹13,000 crore. The initiative aims to boost mushroom production to 67,500 tonnes annually, surpassing existing leaders. It focuses on establishing over 1.62 lakh cultivation units, especially targeting small and medium-scale farmers to generate rural employment. The mission promotes varieties like milky, paddy straw, and button mushrooms, which are suitable for large-scale cultivation. It also integrates Self-Help Groups to empower rural women and entrepreneurs while enhancing exports and ensuring better policy support for mushroom farming.
