The Centre banned Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir under the Unlawful Activities (Preventions) Act, 1967 for 5 years. It was made on the grounds that they were 'in close touch' with militant outfits and is expected to 'escalate secessionist movement' in the State. The notification issuing the ban was made by the Ministry of Home Affairs after a high level meeting on security which was chaired by PM Modi.
