The GRAPES-3 experiment in Ooty, India, has detected a new feature in the spectrum of cosmic-ray protons around 166 tera-electron-volt (TeV). This discovery, situated above 100 TeV but below the cosmic-ray proton "Knee," suggests a deviation from the single power-law spectrum and necessitates a potential re-evaluation of our understanding of cosmic-ray sources and their characteristics.
