Bengaluru is the city where the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and Samsung Semiconductor India Research (SSIR) inaugurated a specialized Quantum Research Lab in October 2026. The facility was established using Samsung's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funding to advance quantum technologies and semiconductor research. Its research areas include quantum devices, cryogenic electronics, two-dimensional materials, single-photon sources, detectors, and qubit characterisation for quantum communication. The laboratory is also linked with the India Semiconductor Workforce Development Program (ISWDP), offering training in qubit technologies and semiconductor workflows. The collaboration aims to make advanced research infrastructure accessible to students and researchers beyond IISc, helping bridge gaps in high-cost equipment availability.
