Kolkata is set to introduce driverless metro train operations on its Green and Purple Lines, making it one of the few Indian cities with Grade of Automation 4 (GoA-4) metro services. These trains use advanced Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) technology, enabling automatic acceleration, braking, station stops, and door operations under continuous supervision from a central control room. The project also includes advanced safety features such as platform screen doors, smart signalling systems, emergency braking, and obstacle detection.
