Bhopal became the first city in India to deploy solar-powered “Algae Trees” as part of an innovative initiative to tackle urban air pollution. Installed under the Bhopal Smart City project, these biotechnology-based systems use living microalgae cultures to absorb carbon dioxide, reduce harmful PM 2.5 particles, and release oxygen into the atmosphere. Each unit operates as an outdoor photo-bioreactor powered by integrated solar panels, enabling sustainable and off-grid functionality.
