New Delhi is the venue for the 4th Indo-German Environmental Forum, scheduled for September 1, 2026. The forum aims to strengthen cooperation between India and Germany on climate and environmental policy. It is co-chaired by Union Minister Bhupender Yadav and German Minister Carsten Schneider and is organised under the theme “Together For More Resilience.” Key areas of discussion include low-carbon industries, biodiversity conservation, resource efficiency, circular economy models, sustainable finance, green skills, and investment mobilisation. The event is jointly organised by India’s Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Germany’s BMUKN.

Ashiv village in Latur district was officially declared Maharashtra’s first 100% LPG-free PNG village by Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) on August 20, 2026. The village successfully transitioned from Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) to Piped Natural Gas (PNG), with MGL providing direct pipeline connections to 1,050 households. The initiative ensures an uninterrupted cooking fuel supply directly to homes and supports the government’s objective of increasing the share of natural gas in India’s energy mix. The project was implemented in coordination with the Ashiv Gram Panchayat and local district authorities, marking an important milestone in village-level clean energy adoption.

New Delhi hosted the first Steering Committee meeting for the 57th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) on August 21, 2026. The meeting reviewed preparations for the festival, which is scheduled to take place in Goa from November 20 to 28, 2026. Ashutosh Gowariker has been appointed Festival Director, while Dr L. Murugan, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, is the Chairman of the Steering Committee. The meeting focused on providing opportunities for young students and emerging filmmakers, promoting India’s Orange Economy, strengthening international cinema outreach, and implementing masterclasses and mentorship programmes.

Mysuru hosted the National Conclave on Tribal Languages and Museums on August 24, 2026, in Karnataka. Organised by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs in association with the Karnataka State Tribal Research Institute and the Central Institute of Indian Languages, the three-day conclave focused on conserving tribal languages and culture. Major initiatives included the revamped Adi Vaani platform with an iOS app and five new languages, along with the launch of the Jago AI bot. The event also featured discussions on multilingual education, language documentation, technology, and community-led revival of endangered tribal languages.

Mumbai debuted in the IWG 2026 Work From Anywhere Index with a score of 77, becoming the only Indian city included in the global ranking. The index evaluates destinations based on factors such as weather, broadband connectivity, accommodation, transportation, culture, food, and flexible workspaces. Mumbai performed particularly well in transport, accommodation, flexible workspace availability, and weather. Its score was higher than those of cities such as London and Miami. However, Mumbai faced comparatively weaker scores in broadband speed, events, and happiness. Bangkok topped the 2026 index with 106.5 points, followed by Tokyo and Barcelona.
