India’s first teal carbon study, which focuses on the role of wetlands in climate adaptation and resilience, was conducted at Keoladeo National Park. Wetlands play a critical role in mitigating climate change by storing organic carbon, known as teal carbon, in non-tidal freshwater systems. Keoladeo National Park, a well-known wetland, was chosen for this study to highlight its importance in managing methane emissions and enhancing climate benefits through conservation efforts. Conservation of such wetlands is vital for maximizing their role in combating climate change.

The Union Cabinet has approved ‘Mission Mausam’ with a ₹2,000 crore investment aimed at enhancing weather forecasting and management in India. This mission, led by the Ministry of Earth Sciences, focuses on improving weather prediction accuracy using advanced technologies like artificial intelligence and machine learning. Implemented by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and related agencies, it will integrate cutting-edge radar and satellite technologies to address challenges such as the unpredictable rainfall events recently witnessed, ensuring more reliable and precise weather forecasts for the future.

The Nagaland government approved the extension of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) to three districts: Chumoukedima, Niuland, and Dimapur. This measure introduces new regulations for residents and visitors, where some groups are exempted from the ILP, while others, particularly under Category III, will require it. The ILP system helps control movement into specific regions, and improvements in the digital application system are expected to make the process more efficient.

Oben Electric, an emerging player in the electric vehicle market, is introducing four new electric two-wheelers priced between Rs 60,000 to Rs 1.5 lakh. This strategy aims to capture 70% of the untapped market in India. The new bikes feature LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) batteries, known for their durability in varying weather conditions. Additionally, Oben Electric plans to expand its footprint with over 60 showrooms by the end of the year, further supporting the growth of the electric vehicle sector.

A new species of jumping spider, named Carrhotus piperus, was discovered in the lower Palani Hills in Tamil Nadu. The discovery adds to the biodiversity of the region, bringing the total number of Carrhotus species in India to 10. This significant finding occurred during a 2016 survey in Thadiyankudisai, Dindigul, and was led by researchers John Caleb T.D. and M. Sampathkumar, emphasizing the ecological richness of Tamil Nadu's landscape.
