Zojila Day is celebrated on November 1st at the Zojila War Memorial near Drass to commemorate the valorous actions of Indian troops during 'Operation Bison' in 1948. Operation Bison was a military operation launched by the Indian Army in 1948 to recapture the Zojila pass, which had been seized by Pakistani raiders. The operation was successful, and the Indian Army regained control of the pass on November 1st, 1948.

The International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists is observed on November 2nd each year. This day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2013 to raise awareness of the issue of impunity for crimes against journalists and to urge governments to take steps to protect journalists and bring perpetrators of crimes against journalists to justice.
