ASRAAM (Advanced Short Range Air-to-Air Missile) is classified as an air-to-air missile, designed specifically for targeting enemy aircraft during flight. It uses advanced infrared heat-seeking technology and operates on a fire-and-forget principle, allowing pilots to launch it and focus on other maneuvers. This makes it extremely effective in close-range aerial combat or dogfights. Its integration into aircraft like the MiG-29 enhances operational efficiency, improves engagement range, and strengthens air superiority capabilities, reflecting a major advancement in modern aerial warfare technology.

Visakhapatnam is the location where INS Taragiri, the fifth Project 17A stealth frigate of the Indian Navy, was officially commissioned. The ceremony took place at the Naval Dockyard, highlighting the city’s importance as a key naval base on India’s eastern coast. Designed by the Navy’s Warship Design Bureau and built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited, the vessel reflects India’s progress in indigenous defence manufacturing. With advanced stealth features and multi-role combat capabilities, the commissioning strengthens India’s maritime security and enhances the operational readiness of its naval forces.

INS Aridhaman was commissioned as India’s third indigenous nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine, marking a significant milestone in the country’s defence capabilities. It belongs to the Arihant-class submarines and was developed under the Advanced Technology Vessel (ATV) project. Built at the Ship Building Centre in Visakhapatnam, the submarine strengthens India’s Nuclear Triad by enabling sea-based nuclear deterrence. With enhanced size and firepower, it can carry advanced missiles like the K-15 and K-4. This development reflects India’s growing self-reliance in defence technology and its focus on strengthening maritime and strategic security.

Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth has assumed the role of Vice Chief of the Army Staff, bringing with him nearly four decades of extensive military experience. His career includes leadership roles across diverse terrains, including desert operations and counter-insurgency missions in Jammu & Kashmir. He has also held key strategic and staff positions at Army Headquarters and served in international assignments such as a United Nations mission in Angola. Known for his strong academic background and excellence in military training, his appointment reflects the Army’s emphasis on experienced leadership to drive modernisation and enhance operational readiness.

INS Malwan is a next-generation anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft delivered to the Indian Navy to strengthen coastal defence. Built by Cochin Shipyard Limited with over 80% indigenous content, it reflects India’s push toward self-reliance in defence manufacturing. Designed for operations in shallow coastal waters, the vessel is equipped with advanced sonar systems, torpedoes, and surveillance capabilities to detect and neutralise underwater threats. It is part of a planned fleet of eight such vessels aimed at replacing older corvettes and enhancing maritime security, particularly in sensitive littoral regions.
