There are two types of softwares- one in the hard drive and one in the ROM. The BIOS in the ROM is what boots the computer and then the secondary OS which may be Windows or Linux is booted.
So if it had been "software" instead of "OS", the answer would be True. However, OS is referred to the software in hard drive not in ROM so that answer for the quiz would be that booting can take place without os.

A computer is a machine and a machine needs an operator to handel and control its all fuctions. OS is system program which is breath of computer which provides support for all operations. Comp can not start without os. If ther is no compiler, assambler, loder etc computer start and can perform other tasks without problem.

OS provides the functionality to run apps, services, process and all such stuff. But if os is not present in computer, yet it boots and loads the io functions and other drivers and the peripherals such as hdd, other drives, etc. Hence without os booting can be done on computer.

As from the question, a computer cannot "boot" without a "bootstrap loader". The loader will then load OS, so at first place "loader" should be there. I believe "Compiler" is not needed as the OS source are already in executable format

When the windows (operating system) is corrupted we have to install a fresh copy of windows. Still we are able to install a fresh copy due to boot loader. So boot loader should be more important. As when we buy a new computer still able to install windows due to boot loader.

In most of the cases os resides in the hard disk and when we start the computer then first os is transfferd from hard disk to the ram hence the main requirment for booting is the os. So answer is operating system.

But without the loader how will the OS be loaded and run. ? so loader is more important than OS.

Isn't bootstrap loader necessary to load the OS? without bootstrap loader how can a system boot?
