In computer networking, DNIC typically stands for: Data Network Identification Code.

Key Facts:

* A DNIC is a 4-digit code used to identify a public data network in X.25 packet-switched networks.
* It’s defined by the ITU-T standard X.121 , which is the addressing scheme used in X.25 networks.
* The DNIC helps in routing packets by identifying the country and the network provider.

Structure:

* The first 3 digits usually identify the country.
* The 4th digit identifies the specific network within that country.

Example:

* DNIC 3106 could refer to a specific public data network in the United States.

Usage Context:

* Mostly historical or used in legacy systems, since X.25 has largely been replaced by modern protocols like TCP/IP.
* Still relevant in certain telecom, banking, or industrial control systems where X.25 remains in use.

The address is made up of the international data number (IDN), which consists of two fields: the 4 digit data network identification code (DNIC) and the (up to) 10 digit national terminal number (NTN).

The DNIC has three digits to identify the country (one to identify a zone and two to identify the country within the zone) and one to identify the PDN (allowing only ten in each country

Data Network Identification Code.

A data network identification code (DNIC) consists of 4 digits that include:.

Data Country Code (DCC). The first digit identifies a world geographic zone. The second and third digits identify a specific country.

Public Data Network Code (PDN). The fourth digit in the DNIC identifies a specific PDN.

For suppose.

The DNIC no of the country Germany: 262 2 (packet switched data service).

Here 262 represents data country code & last single digit "2"represents the netwrok digit (packet switched data service) -name of the n/w to which DNIC is located.

Data network identification code (DNIC) : In the CCITT International X.121 format, the first four digits of the international data number, the three digits that may represent the data country code, and the 1-digit network code, i.e 1, the network digit.

Agree @Karthika.

The NTN identifies the exact network device (DTE, data terminal equipment) in the packet-switched network (PSN) and is often provided as an NUA. There are no rules to the structure of the NTN.

International data number(IDN).
DNIC = 4 digit.
Country = 1+2 (one to identify a zone and two to identify
the country within the zone).
PDN = 1.

NTN = (up to) 10 digit national terminal number.
