A bridge is used to connect two different LANs or two segments of the same LAN by forwarding network traffic between network segments.

Repeater: Connects external Local Area Networks. It amplifies the original data and cannot complete frames.

Bridge: Connects similar LAN and forwards the original signal.

Hub: Connects different computers in a star topology using copper wires or optical fibres.

NIC: Network interface card is needed for a machine to connect to a network.

Gateway: Connects dissimilar networks of different protocols. It converts between different protocols.

Router: Connects heterogeneous networks of different topology.

Repeater is total wrong answer. There is no any logic by definition. Gateway is the best in this case.

Gateway work on 4 to 7 layers on osi, means for different types of protocol.

1. Hub: (Physical layer):

-Connects nodes in star topology.
-Multiport repeater.

2. Bridge: (Data link layer):

-Connects similar networks.
-It has filtering capability.

3. Gateway: (Network layer):

-Router or proxy server.

4. Repeater: (Physical layer):

-Regenerates the original bit pattern.
-Connects two segments of same LAN.

It can be bridge because it works on different protocol like router.

Different protocol on same network or different topology for the bridge?

Gateway is right answer, because bridge used for different topology. But this question is say different protocol.

So we use gateway.

When we use different Networks of different technologies we can connect them by using interface i.e. GATEWAYS. But if there are two systems on the same network and using different protocols, and we want to connect them we use interface BRIDGE. There the right answer is bridge.
