Attenuation : decrease in magnitude of current, voltage, a power of a signal in transmission between points, or it is any reduction in the strength of a signal. Attenuation is the opposite of amplification, and is normal when a signal is sent from one point to another. If the signal attenuates too much, it becomes unintelligible, that is why most networks require repeaters at regular intervals.
