The data dictionary is a file or set of files that contain the database metadata. The data dictionary contains records about other objects in the database. Such as data ownership, data relationships to other objects and other data.

Data dictionary is an inventory of data elements in a database or data model with detailed description of its format, relationships, meaning, source and usage.
