The main difference between a serial port and a parallel port is that a serial port transmits data one bit after another, while a parallel port transmits all 8 bits of a byte in parallel. Thus a parallel port transmits data much faster than a serial port.

Parallel port is less faster than serial port because at a time 8 bit transmitted through 8 data bus and these data bus are then affected by magnetic effect because bits are form of voltage.
Serial port is less affected from magnetic effects.
Serial port is less affected from magnetic effects.

The Serial connections send 1 bit at a time. Parallel transmits 8 or more at a time.
