The term "fifth generation" was intended to convey the system as being a leap beyond existing machines. In the history of computing hardware, computers using vacuum tubes were called the first generation; transistors and diodes, the second; integrated circuits, the third; and those using microprocessors, the fourth. Whereas previous computer generations had focused on increasing the number of logic elements in a single CPU, the fifth generation, it was widely believed at the time, would instead turn to massive numbers of CPUs for added performance.

The Fifth Generation Computer Systems project(FGCS) was an initiative by Japan's Ministry of International Trade and Industry, begun in 1982, to create a fifth generation computer which was supposed to perform much calculation using massively parallel computing/processing. It was to be the result of a massive government/industry research project in Japan during the 1980s. It aimed to create an "epoch-making computer" with-supercomputer-like performance and to provide a platform for future developments in artificial intelligence.


As you see it is oriented towards technology from other field and not the languages.

The main reason for the existing of fifth generation was to develop a computer that can perform or mimic human way of life. Then their comes the development of artificial intelligence. So artificial intelligence allow the creation of robot that can do exactly as human being.

The fifth generation concentrated on the improvement of both size and less time to process the data. This has been achieved by having more smaller computers like laptop tablets and others. Same to the speed enhancement.

Because 5th generation computer is more advance than 4th generation computer.

Due to high storage capacity, and memory space speed of working is very fast.

But all generations of computers are a result of tech advancement so whats new with the 5th generation computer.

What are the differences in memory storage, size and hardware components in both the computers?

The fifth generations focused on the thinking power in processor which has not yet obtained.

It is artificial intelligence like voice recognisation, application of nano technology.

As generations by pass people get advanced and new thing get discovered.
