Water is supplied by the treatment of water. So water is first supplied to the pumping station from the reservoir or lake (water source) to check the water quality like physical, chemical and biological tests and then water is supplied to the treatment plant to treat the water and then the treated water is conveyed to the overhead tanks and then distributed to the consumer. This is a supply system whereas dams are for the storage of river water.
