First draw the load diagram, and then calculate the bending moment from left or right support, you will get max BM at 12P loading of magnitude 5Pa.

B.M = Area of SFD.

Calculate the area of SFD and then by adding and subtracting you will come to know the Max B.M from the B.M.D.

The Maximum moment occurs where shear sign changes.

Max shear sign change is at distance "a" from left. Therefore moment at a = 5P x a.

Position taken from ->

1st position =5unit downward
2nd position=12 unit upward
3rd posirion=9 unit downrd
4th position =4 unit upward
5th position = 2 unit downward

Now, calculate BM from LHS as u can see 5*a gives Max bm at 2nd position. You can also calculate from RHS side you will get the same result.

Take moment from left,

+2p*a-2p*2a= -2pa.

Moving towards right,

-2pa+7p*a= 5pa.

Also at the extreme right we have 5p*a.

Therefore, maximum bending moment = 5p*a.
