Change in settlement is =change in void ratio to 1 + initial void ratio × initial settlement.
So, 0.5×2.4÷2.
=0.6 so final settlement= 2.4 - 0.6 = 1.8.
So, 0.5×2.4÷2.
=0.6 so final settlement= 2.4 - 0.6 = 1.8.

Total settlement (S) = change in void ratio/ (1+ intial void ratio) * thickness of layer.
So, S = 0.5 * 2.4/(1+1) = 0.6.
Then final thickness of layer = 2.4 - 0.6 = 1.8.
So, S = 0.5 * 2.4/(1+1) = 0.6.
Then final thickness of layer = 2.4 - 0.6 = 1.8.

According to me, the solution is;
dH/H = (e-e0)/(1+e0).
Hf = H-dH,
H = 2.4, e = 1.0 and e0 =0.50.
dH/H = (e-e0)/(1+e0).
Hf = H-dH,
H = 2.4, e = 1.0 and e0 =0.50.

Final thickness = z (1+e2)/(1+e1).
= 2.4 (1+ 0.5)/(1+1) = 1.8.
= 2.4 (1+ 0.5)/(1+1) = 1.8.
