B is not correct because phreatic line is perpendicular to the slope of the upstream side of the dam. And equipotential lines are also perpendicular to the phreatic line.

So upstream slop represents an equipotential line. Hence A is the correct answer.

Upstream slope is perpendicular to phreatic line. Moreover phreatic line is parabolic in nature and upstream slope is not.

The equipotential line is the correct answer.

At the upstream slope of the earthen dam, there exists 100 per cent equipotential line on its surface.

As further equipotential lines are drawn with a subsequent drop in the head in the flow net mesh.
