1st sight = Fore sight.
2nd sight= back sight.

1. The reading in the leveling staff(BS, IS & FS) are all in the line of sight.

2. BS is always the first reading. Then comes IS or FS.

3. If the instrument is at the turning point then the first reading i.e BS is always considered the previous FS.

4. As it has been said in point 3 the first reading in the turning point is always BS.
