A uniform slope was measured by the method of stepping. If the difference in level between two points is 1.8 m and the slope distance between them is 15 m, the error is approximately equal to
cumulative, + 0.11 m

Slope correction must be always negative. So, option C will be correct.

The systematic error means?

In this question, they are asking for error not correction so.

Correction is always negative.

But the error is positive.
That' s why the answer is +11.

As it is a systematic error not random error so it can be called cumulative error.

Here is the relation b/w - error & correction.

CORRECTION = -(ERROR).

Slope correction is always subtracitve.

For positive errors, corrections will be negative and for negative errors, corrections will be positive.

What is the difference b/w cumulative and compensating?

Abhishek Anand said:   9 years ago
Slop error always +'ve and correction always equal to= - (h*h) /2L.

If higher powers neglected otherwise correction increases by (h^4/8L^3).

Cumulative (systematic) error may b +'ve or -ve.

That is 1.8^2/(2*15) = 0.108~0.11.
