If 20 chain is too short by 1m.
the supposed it measures 40m(it is measured value),
true value because chain is short=(40-2=38),
error=M.V-T.V.
=40-38,
=+2.

If chain length is shorter than the original length then its -ve cumulative error in chaining. And if the length of the chain is longer then it's +ve cumulative error.

If chain length is shorter than the original length then its +ive cumulative error in chaining. And if length of chain is longer than -ive cumulative error.

If an elongated chain (suppose 2 metres too long) is kept on the ground. It will cover a distance of 32 metres but it will show you the 30-metre distance.

Answer is right.
Tape measurers 30m while having a error 0.01m short, that mean the actual measured length is 29.99m.
So positive cumulative error.

The chain is 0.01 m short the true length of chain decrease to 29.99.
In the concept, chain length decrease passive error acts option C is right.

Chain is too short i.e postive cumulative error.
Chain is too long i.e negative cumulative error.
So, the answer is postive cumulative.
Chain is too long i.e negative cumulative error.
So, the answer is postive cumulative.

If the length of the chain is more, the measured distance will be less and hence the error will be negative.

Here short chain measure 30.01 meters.
So error =30.01-30=+0.01 hence answer is a positive cumulative error.
So error =30.01-30=+0.01 hence answer is a positive cumulative error.

How to call the actual length if distance measured (300m)is given along with this same question?
