As per IS 456 : 2000, Clause 25.4 "Minimum Eccentricity", it says 20mm.

Minimum eccentricity is 20mm as per indian standard code 456:2000.

Gopal Saini said: (Mar 1, 2015)
Minimum eccentricity is 20 to 25 mm.

Is code gave 20 mm is minimum eccentricity?

Diwakar said: (Dec 11, 2015)
As per RCC designs the minimum eccentricity is 50 mm and maximum is 1.5 D.

The option is B. 20mm in code book or else explain briefly.

Arkadeb Chakraborty said: (Dec 13, 2016)
I think it's 20 mm.

B. 20 mm is correct.

20mm is correct. Because (L/500+b/30) = more than or at least 20 mm.

20 mm is correct.

Column in basement, ground floor it's location is correct but in first floor column is shifted on side by 50 mm bodily. Placing of beams at 2nd floor rests on column body. So, structurally is it ok? since centre line of column changing now. This column ends at 2nd-floor roof level. Please answer me.

The minimum eccentricity of column 20mm.

But given question column should be eccentricity loading so answer 50mm.

Mjm said: (Jul 22, 2021)
According to me, 20mm is correct.

Sauban Momin said: (Jul 15, 2022)

Who are all saying 20mm is the answer, please note that 20mm is the minimum criteria above which a column is considered eccentric in X or Y.

However, when you go to design a column, you have to adopt a higher value of 50mm for a safer design consideration.
