No load on cantilever beam only moment act at the free end if the moment is M so, moment act on entire length is same if moment same than moment diagram is rectangular.

The maximum value of bm at fixed end and diagram is triangle if the same bm at free end then bm at fixed at will be balanced the shape become triangle to rectangle.

The Concept is;

1) No load BM Diagram Linear.
2) point load BM Diagram inclined..
3) UDL BM Diagram parabolic.
4) UVL BM Diagram cubicle.

What would be the answer if cantilever beam is subjected to a moment at a free end?

Is it triangle or rectangle please tell?

Answer A is right.

When point load at free hand on cantilever beam then SFD -rectangular and BMD-triangle.

Yes, the given answer is right.

The cantilever is a beam which has one end free and the other is fixed.

The rectangle is the answer because the moment is applied. At the free end, no other force is present.

No load on the beam. So SFD should be linear and BMD should be rectangle answer B is correct.

At free end cantilever beam.
SFD is constant (rectangle).
BMD is linear (triangle).

May be couple is acting on free end thats why the rectangular shape found.
