Because for riveting initially we have to make holes to the plate and after that we do the riveting.

Welding can be done directly on the plates which to be joint, but for doing riveting first we have to make holes to the plate and it takes more time then welding.

Can anyone explain the first sentence?

In welding, we do not need to do any extra work. But in a riveting, we have to do extra work for making holes. Which take more time in this time we do welding.

The welded connection depends on the thikness of the plates eg,for thickness 0-10mm min. Size is 3mm.
