Elongation means force is tensile. Stress always opposes the force thats why compressive stress.

As the force applied is elongating the body then stress will be compressive.

Your explanation is correct but here as it is elongating that means stress produced will be opposite i.e. Compressive stress will be produced.

My first question is, as equal and opposite force is applied then how it can be possible to elongate the body?

It should be compressed/squizzed.
So, the stress produced must be "compressive stress".
