Secant formula is used for the determination of allowable stress in axial compression.

Different formulas used for finding allowable stress in axial compression are as follow;

Before IS800;1984 secant formula used.

@IS800;1984 Rankine formula used.
IS800;2007 perry Robertson formula used.

Secant formula is fc=(fy/m)/[(1+0.20sec(l/r(mfa/4E)^0.5))].
