According to Indian standard, it is Perry Robertson and according to British, it is Secant formula.

The version of IS 800 before 1984, it was Secant formula for Indian standard.

In the 1984 version, it was Merchant Rankine formula.

But the latest version, in IS 800 2007, it is Perry Robertson formula. Therefore the correct answer is E.

Secant is correct. Because we get modulus of elasticity up to proportionality limit. So up to lower yield point we secant modulus of elasticity and beyond limit, we get tangent modulus. Is code all other have a modulus of a tangent.

1. Secant formula was used in an earlier version of IS:800 prior to 1984.
2. IS:800-1984 recommended Merchant-Rankine formula.
3. IS:800-2007 recommends the Perry Roberston formula (see clause 7.1.2.1, pg no-34 of IS:800-2007).

The correct answer is Merchant-Rankine formula. Secant formula was correct according to previous IS codes IS 800:1962. But after that secant formula has been dropped in next IS code IS 800: 1984.

Perry Robertson is used in European codebooks and secant is used in Indian codebook.

They have asked Indian standard institution so the given answer is correct.
