First of all, clay is not a cohesive soil it's only a c-phi soil. The best example of cohesive soil is undrained clay.

Black cotton soil is expansive soil.

Clay is the cohesive soil. Black cotton soil is residual soil.

Guys all clays are not cohesive. There are soils having particle size less than 2 micro metre but having no cohesion. Whereas black cotton soil has cohesive properties.

Both clay and black cotton soil are cohesive but the cohesiveness of black soil is higher than clay soil b/c the internal interlocking of soil particles in black cotton soil is weaker than that of clay.

Clay is also the right option.

Black cotton soil is also clay.

Clay is a form of 3 minerals illite kaolinite and montmorillonite in black cotton mont is max.

So, the black cotton soil is also a clay soil.
