n = vol of voids/vol of soil.

e = vol of voids/vol of soilds.

vol of soil = vol of voids +vol of soilds.

Using this formula we get e = n(1 + e).

n = Vv/V.

e = Vv/Vs.

V = Vs+Vv.

n = Vv/(Vv+Vs).

Divide numerator and denominator by Vs.

n = (Vv/Vs)/{(Vv/Vs)+(Vs/Vs)}.

n = e/(1+e).

1/n = (1/e)+1.

Solving above eq we get relation b/w n & e,
n = e/1+e.

We get e = n(1 + e).

Than how will you get e = n/(1 - n)?

How to change sign?

e = Vv/Vs.

But V = Vv+Vs, Vs = V-Vv.
e = Vv/(V-Vv).

Divide throughout by V.

e = (Vv/v)/((V-Vv)/V) as Vv/V = n.
e = n/(1-n).

It should be e=n(1+e).

No, e=n/(1-n) is correct.

But when you divide it by v, wouldn't you have to divide e by v as well?

e=n/(1-n) is correct.

Prove that n = e/1+e.
