Bed bars or a profile walls are those masonary aur concrete toe wall like structures which are construted at suitable intervals along an unlined canal, so as to serve as permanent reference Marks and thus to indicate correct alignment and theoretical bed levels of the canal at these places.

Bed bars are used for permanent reference for an unlined channel. These are provided on certain interval. Like for minor canals these are provided by a distance of 200 m.

Bed bar can be called as wier, but not for measuring discharge, controlling silt. But only for measuring the general behaviour of the canal.
