Because in the waterlogged area the salt content of the soil increases and the air below the ground surface in not available for the utilization for the crop. By this the productivity get decreased and so we try to avoid cropping in the water logged land areas. We thus try to reclaim the ground by using appropriate methods.

In water logged area all the voids (including air voids) are completely filled with water and so leaving no air for the plant to grow. That means Absence of aeration of soil from root zone of the plant is the main reason for the decrease in the productivity.

Because of salt content.

In the water-logged area, the salt content is very much. To make suitable for cultivation it requires leaching process (irrigation without cultivation). It reduces the salt content to such an extent so that inferior crops can be cultivated.
