The Manning equation is a widely used and very versatile formula in water resources. It can be used to compute the flow in an open channel, compute the friction losses in a channel, derive the capacity of a pipe, check the performance of an area-velocity flow meter, and has many more applications.

V=1/n * R^2/3 * S^1/2.
Here;
v = Velocity.
n = Manning's Roughness Coefficient,
R = Hydraulic Radius,
S = Channel Slope or friction slope,
Note- Manning's Equation can be rearranged to solve for slope (S), which is termed the friction slope sf. The friction slope is part of the gradually varied flow used to solve for the water surface profile through a culvert.
