Right answer is Option C.
Because : when adhesion force is less than the cohesion force, liquid gather into droplet. For Ex (Mercury).
Cohesion>Adhesion, Top surface of mercury is convex & mercury fall in the capillary tube.

Mercury, for example, has a very large surface tension and a large contact angle with glass. When placed in a tube, the surface of a column of mercury curves downward, somewhat like a drop.

C is correct.
Because in the case of mercury medium cohesive force between molecules is greater than adhesive force and capillary fall occurs.
So C is correct.

It's curved downward. By curved downward they mean going to bottom from top. The curve's highest point is on top, so the curve goes downward from the top point.

Because mercury is also a type of liquid, and the plane of all liquids segment (move downward) due to surface tension force in open tubes.

It should be curved upward.
Because lack of adhesive force.
The curve is downward in case of water where meniscus is formed.

@ Manoj.
You are correct but here it is asked curved in which direction which should be curved upwards or convex upwards.

Curve is upward due to dominant force is cohesion in mercury. While downward in water, in which dominant is adhesion.

In the case of capillary fall, the contact angle always greater than 90°. Therefore answer should be (option b).

In capillary depression of hg the shape of curve of hg inside tube is curved downward. So option "C" is correct.
