A volume of 3.0 x 106 m3 of ground water was pumped out from an unconfined aquifer, uniformly from an area of 5 km2. The pumping lowered the water table from initial level of 102 m to 99 m. The specific yield of the aquifier is

Specific yield = Volume/Area*WT level.
where, WT level = 102-99 = 3 m.
Specific yield = 3*10^6/ (5*10^6*3) = 0.2
where, WT level = 102-99 = 3 m.
Specific yield = 3*10^6/ (5*10^6*3) = 0.2

Sp. Yield = ( vol. of ground water) / (Aquifers area x ground water table depletion).
Vol of gr. water = 3 x 10^6 m^3.
Aquifers area = 5 km^2 = 5 x 10^6 m^2.
Ground water table = 102 - 99 = 3 m.
Thus Sp. yield = 0.2.
Vol of gr. water = 3 x 10^6 m^3.
Aquifers area = 5 km^2 = 5 x 10^6 m^2.
Ground water table = 102 - 99 = 3 m.
Thus Sp. yield = 0.2.
