The width of expansion joint gap is 2.5 cm in a cement concrete pavement. The spacing between expansion joints for a maximum rise in temperature of 25°C is, (assuming coefficient of thermal expansion of concrete as 10 x 10-6 per degree C),

It would be 50m
Solution- width of expansion joint = 2.5cm.
Now both sides slab starts expand so we have to take (2.5/2) width of expansion for a single slab length.
Now expansion due to thermal.
1.25 = 10x10^-6xLx25.
L = 50m.

Here, dl = 25mm, α = 10 * 10^-6, (t1 - t2 = 25).
Hence, dl = l * α * (t1 - t2).
l = 100 meters.
