As you traverse along straight road to horizontal curved road there is, sudden introduction of centrifugal force, (= M*v^2/R) , due to which a driver can experience sudden jerk and also might lead to the overturning of vehicle.

Therefore to avoid this transition curve is provided, such that curve radius is provided gradually, leading to the gradual introduction of centrifugal force. Hence reducing jerk.
