The mixture of different ingredients of cement, known as raw mix, is burnt in a rotary kiln at a temperature of about 1400–1500°C. This high temperature is required to form clinker, which consists of key compounds like tricalcium silicate (C₃S), dicalcium silicate (C₂S), tricalcium aluminate (C₃A), and tetracalcium aluminoferrite (C₄AF).
After burning, the clinker is cooled and then ground with gypsum to produce the final cement product.
